The Yiddish Book Center offers fellowship program for US and international students. Applicants should be recent college graduates with strong backgrounds in Jewish studies or related disciplines, a working knowledge of Yiddish, a commitment to Yiddish language and culture and a demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Each Fellow will receive a stipend of $28,000 plus health insurance.

Level: It is a one year fellowship program

Field(s): Fellows spend a year as full-time staff learning valuable professional skills and contributing to the Center’s major projects

Award No: Generally three to five fellowship positions are available each year. The number of applications we receive each year is increasingly competitive.

Scholarship Duration: Fellowship is awarded for one academic year, i.e, 2015-2016.

Scholarship covers:The Fellows receive a stipend ($28,000), group health insurance (80% paid by the employer, 20% by employee), and paid holidays, vacation, and sick days.

Description

‣ The Yiddish Book Center, in Amherst, Massachusetts, is accepting applicants for the 2015-16 Yiddish Book Center Fellowship Program.

‣ The Yiddish Book Center Fellowship offers recent college graduates with intermediate or advanced Yiddish skills an opportunity to develop valuable professional experience while working as full-time members of the Center’s staff.

‣ Fellows serve as teaching assistants for college-level Yiddish classes, conduct interviews for the Center’s Wexler Oral History Project, develop educational and exhibit materials, assist with translation or online accessibility initiatives, or do bibliographic work with the Center’s ever-growing collection of rescued and donated books.

‣ With the support of mentors, Fellows also apply their ingenuity and personal expertise to the creation of new projects.

Scholarship Application Method

  • Completed application form, including your CV/Resume (below)
  • Official academic transcripts for all undergraduate and graduate work, sent directly by the college or university. (Note: if the university is unable to send by email, we will accept by fax to 413-256-4700, or mail to Yiddish Book Center, 1021 West St., Amherst, MA 01002, USA, attention: Fellowship Program.)
  • Three reference letters (including at least one from an academic instructor and at least one from a professional supervisor), sent directly by the recommenders. (Note: if the recommender is unable to send by email, we will accept by fax to 413-256-4700, or mail to Yiddish Book Center, 1021 West St., Amherst, MA 01002, USA, attention: Fellowship Program.)
